Dear Friends,

I think you’d agree that our San Diego way of life is hard to beat. Our weather, our people, and our economy are things most other communities can only wish for.

Unfortunately, like you I’m frustrated with the financial and ethical failures of City Hall.

But there’s hope: with the strength and commitment of our entire community, we can make change happen!

Four years ago I joined with other reformers to bring the crisis at City Hall to light, and to offer real solutions to the problems. In “sounding the alarm,” we took the heat from the politicians and special interests at City Hall because we believed the public had a right to know. Since then we’ve won some real victories for open and accountable government.

We succeeded because people like you stepped forward and demanded reform. Together we elected Mayor Jerry Sanders—who has started the ball rolling in changing City Hall.

    What People are Saying
Our chance to finish what we started and really clean up City Hall will happen in 2008 when we can elect a new City Council to work collaboratively with the Mayor and move our city forward. And that’s why I’m running for City Council--District 5.

Through my campaign to “Clean Up City Hall,” I pledge to bring the community’s voice into city government and dedicate my time on Council to three priorities:

Address the Financial Crisis: Balance the city’s books and pay down city debt

Public Interest, Not Special Interests: End back-room deal-making by restoring integrity, ethics, and accountability at every level of government

Quality City Services: Focus city government on the core city services we pay taxes for and deserve.

Cleaning up City Hall starts with you. Please consider endorsing, volunteering or donating to this campaign. Join with friends and other committed citizens who will soon have the pride to say “I made change happen” and created a city government that is worthy of the outstanding treasures and citizenry we have in San Diego.

Sincerely,

Carl DeMaio
